Job Title: HR Generalist
Location: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

Job Purpose:
The Human Resource Generalist is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Human Resource (HR) department. This includes tasks such as staff recruitment, conducting interviews, managing compensation and benefits, ensuring compliance with company policies, and handling various HR functions.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Read:

  • Training and Compliance: Review, track, and document compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments, including safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and certifications.
  • Recruitment: Recruit, interview, and facilitate the hiring of qualified candidates for open positions. Collaborate with departmental managers to understand job requirements.
  • Background Checks: Conduct or arrange background checks and employee eligibility verification.
  • New Hire Programs: Implement new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.
  • HR Program Administration: Perform routine tasks required for the administration and execution of HR programs, such as compensation, benefits, leave, disciplinary matters, dispute resolution, performance management, and talent development.
  • Documentation: Ensure timely completion of various HR documents, including probation assessments, contract renewals, and end-of-contract procedures. Maintain organized employee files.
  • Employee Inquiries: Handle employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Disciplinary Meetings: Attend and participate in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Compliance: Maintain compliance with government regulations and local employment laws. Review and update policies and practices to ensure compliance.
  • Professional Development: Stay informed about HR trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in the HR field.
  • Other Duties: Perform other HR-related tasks as assigned.

Academic & Professional Qualifications:

  • A first-level degree in Human Resources, Public Administration, Social Studies, or related field.
  • SHRM-CP certification is a plus.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in the Human Resources field.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Teamwork: Build team morale, adapt to different behavioral styles.
  • Task Management: Deliver timely, quality outputs, exercise sound judgment, and lead the development of impactful solutions.
  • Professionalism: Demonstrate strong experience in providing services in line with professional standards.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in using tools such as the Microsoft Office suite, presentation software applications, and electronic working paper software.
