Background

The Global Survivors Fund (“GSF”) was launched in October 2019 by Dr Denis Mukwege and Nadia Murad, Nobel Peace Prize laureates 2018. Its mission is to enhance access to reparations for survivors of conflict-related sexual violence around the globe, thus responding to a gap long identified by survivors. GSF acts to provide interim reparative measures in situations where states or other parties are unable or unwilling to meet their responsibilities. GSF advocates for duty bearers as well as the international community to develop reparations programmes. It also guides states and civil society by providing expertise and technical support for designing reparations programmes. GSF’s survivor-centric approach is the cornerstone of its work.

Role summary

The Global Partnerships Officer manages day-to-day engagement with a set of government, multilateral, trust, and foundation funders. In close consultation with the Head of Global Partnerships, the Global Partnerships Officer supports the development and implementation of donor engagement strategies. Based on thorough analysis of target donors as well as of broader political and funding trends, the incumbent identifies funding opportunities and develops compelling proposals, working with colleagues across the organisation to gather inputs and facilitate collaboration. Serving as the focal point for day-to-day communications with assigned donor contacts, the Global Partnerships Officer ensures coherent messaging to external partners and keeps GSF colleagues abreast of grant discussions and donor requirements.

In a newly established Global Partnerships Team, the Global Partnerships Officer plays a key role, working with the Head of Global Partnerships and other team members to build new fundraising systems and infrastructure (for prospecting, contact management, stewardship, compliance tracking, etc.) and to establish smooth and professional working relationships across the team and the broader organisation.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Donor engagement

  • Helps to grow GSF’s income from a set of foundation, government, and multilateral donors, with a focus on flexible and high-quality funding.
  • Manages day-to-day relations with assigned donor contacts to grow existing funding lines, build trust-based long-term relationships, and unlock new grants and core opportunities.

  • Prepares for and coordinates donor events and meetings as needed and ensures follow up.

Proposal development and grant management

  • Coordinates and produces top-quality proposals and grant reports (and other donor collateral as required), facilitating internal communications across teams and ensuring the end result consistently meets deadlines, donor expectations, and the highest competitive standards.
  • Keeps close track of reporting and other compliance requirements and coordinates responses to donor inquiries pertaining to financial, programmatic, operations or governance issues.

Internal communications

  • Builds strong relationships across all teams and departments, taking time to learn about colleagues’ priorities and constraints and facilitate fruitful collaborations.
  • Collaborates closely with Programmes, Finance and other relevant colleagues to compile timely and accurate inputs for funding proposals and donor reports.
  • Works in unison with Global Partnerships and Communications colleagues to ensure coherent messaging and no duplication of effort.
  • Applies skill and diplomacy to prevent or resolve internal conflicts, miscommunications, or frustration.

Prospect research and data management

  • Researches, identifies and reviews suitable grant opportunities and requests for proposals.
  • Compiles and shares comprehensive donor intelligence for the assigned donor portfolio.
  • Maintains accurate records and regularly updates relevant donor data, using agreed formats and platforms.

Position Requirements

  • Degree in international affairs, political science, development studies or similar.
  • 4+ years of experience and record of success in non-profit fundraising, preferably in the humanitarian, development, or human rights space.
